We get a lot of questions about what ages we hire. For the most part we hire students who are at least 16 years old or are close to turning 16. The Ohio Minor Labor laws are the reason for hiring mainly students that are at least 16. We at Dairy Queen follow the Minor Labor laws. There are a number of restrictions on minors working but the main one that affects us is: minors under the age of 16 can't work past 7pm while school is in session. This includes weekends during the school year. We do occasionally hire 14 and 15 years olds to work after school shifts until 7pm and weekends during the day but, since these are not our busy times, we don't hire many. Grades: We feel grades are important and hire students that do well in school. Sports and school activities: We do hire students that are in school sports, band, or other school activities and will work around practice schedules and games. The student must be willing to work some after practices and games during season. We do not hire people for a "summer only job" or "weekend only job". To work the summer months, student workers must work during the spring. The only exception is student workers that have been with us, left for college, and are home for the summer. We are open mid-February through the end of November. The most demanding months that we need workers are March, April, May and September. |
